Progressive Care Unit
About Our Services
Hilo Medical Center's Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a 15-bed telemetry monitoring unit that offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic and interventional services. The PCU team has a 4:1 patient-to-nurse ratio. We provide continuous heart monitoring 24 hours a day for patients with or at risk for cardiac and neurologic problems, such as a heart attack, arrhythmia, transient ischemic attack (TIA), stroke, angiography, pacemaker insertion, vascular surgery, or aneurysm repair.
Pocket-sized telemetry monitors allow our staff to continuously monitor the heart rhythms of our patients so we can respond immediately if the need arises. Bedside monitors displaying heart rhythm, blood pressure and blood oxygen saturation are available for patients requiring closer observation or patients who require transport off the unit for diagnostic tests.
