Our Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 2016 winner of the Beacon Award for Excellence, is an 11-bed unit consisting of mixed medical and surgical patients. We care for a wide range of patients from pediatric to geriatric. Our staff-to-patient ratio is 2:1. We provide critical care treatment while being compassionate, honest, committed, and respectful while maintaining patient’s personal beliefs. The ICU is home base for Telemetry monitoring for the entire hospital on a 24 hour basis. Our staff is responsible for responding to Code Blue and Rapid Response throughout the hospital and Stroke and Trauma activations in the Emergency Room.
Our mission is to achieve the best possible patient outcomes while providing critical care treatment with compassion, honesty, respect and consideration for the patient’s beliefs and their families. We are experts at critical thinking, problem solving, medication delivery and critical care transport. We are dedicated to providing the highest level of evidence-based practice with the highest standard of care.
Our unit believes in living a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, we participate in multiple community-based events throughout the year. We are actively involved annually in the Heart Walk, Veterans Run, EMS Walk/Run family day and the Hilo Full/Half Marathon.
